For more than twenty years Robert Esposito has been assisting nonprofit organizations to advance their institutional missions throughout the Philadelphia region, Washington, DC, New York and the Northeast corridor. Robert is founder and President of Robert Esposito Communications and Development, Inc. (EspoComm), a fundraising consulting firm. His practice focuses on helping nonprofit organizations leverage limited resources to meet their institutional goals.
With extensive experience and formal education in business, Robert began working in the independent sector as an Economic Analyst for the Environmental Defense Fund in New York in 1989. Returning to Philadelphia, Robert joined the Medical Center Development Office of the University of Pennsylvania as the Director of Operations and Finance, where he created and implemented the systems and operations needed to support a sophisticated development department as it embarked upon a $200 million capital campaign.
Since 1992, he has worked with more than ninety local and national clients to raise millions of dollars in public and private support. He has worked with clients in Arts and Culture, Medicine and Healthcare, Education (colleges, universities, charter schools and private schools), Scientific Research, Museums and other fields.
Through client assignments, conferences and workshops, he has trained thousands of nonprofit professionals in grant proposal writing, major donor solicitation and stewardship, communications and development operations management. As a consultant, Robert has built and managed teams of professionals, technical and non-technical staff, and consultants to design, develop and implement projects of every size and scope.
Robert frequently serves in interim senior-level development positions for organizations in transition or in the process of conducting executive searches. In such roles he has led the development departments of organizations including the University of Pennsylvania School of Design, Global Health Ministry, the AIDS Consortium of Philadelphia, the Greater Germantown Housing Development Corporation, CHOICE, the National Center for Educational Alliances, the National Museum of American Jewish History, and the Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations.
Robert has most recently worked on capital campaigns for the National Constitution Center, the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, the Monell Chemical Senses Center, the National Museum of American Jewish History, and the Barnes Foundation. While frequently asked to assist in the planning and quiet phases of campaigns, Robert has been brought in many times during the often challenging latter phases of campaigns to help finish capital projects successfully.
In addition, Robert and EspoComm analyze and develop benchmarking studies of various aspects of non-profit fundraising operations to provide strategic information to clients for campaign and planning purposes. His work also includes advising foundations and private donors in setting philanthropic and giving strategies.
Robert took his undergraduate training at Amherst College and Oxford University, receiving a B.A. in English from the former. He received a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
